I am so happy to share with you LUMI, my latest quilt pattern designed for Island Batik.
This beautiful project was created with learning in mind and features the Split Rects™ Tool and techniques developed by Studio 180 Design. If you've ever been hesitant about sewing long, elongated triangles, you're going to love this method. The Split Rects™ tool makes those shapes an absolute breeze while giving you exceptional precision and efficiency.
One of my favourite details of the quilt is the border. It features an add-on technique—again using the Split RectsTM tool—that creates a striking frame around the body of the quilt. It adds just the right pop of interest and really brings the whole design together.
When it comes to the project we'll be working on at the Quilting in Killarney Retreat, my goal has never been just about the finished quilt itself. What truly excites me is the learning that happens along the way—the techniques, the confidence you build, and the skills you take home to use again and again.
That said, I also understand that a large quilt can feel like a big commitment. It requires a fair amount of fabric, takes time to complete, and for some quilters—especially those newer to quilting—the size alone can feel a little daunting.
So, with all of that in mind, I'm happy to offer another option...

Let me introduce Mini Lumi!
Mini Lumi is a 19" x 65" table runner that includes all the elements and techniques we'll be learning in the full-size quilt—just in a more manageable size. It's the perfect way to enjoy the creative process, learn the same skills, and leave the retreat with a beautiful finished project (or very close to one!).
If the size of the original project was holding you back from joining us for this fun-filled quilting adventure in beautiful Northern Ontario, I created this runner with you in mind.
You are welcome to use fabrics from your own stash, or you can make things easy and purchase a fabric kit featuring the beautiful Frosted Wishes fabric line by Island Batik. Kits will be available for both these size projects from Quilting by the River. More details will be available once the fabric arrives.
Join me as we explore these techniques together. My goal is not only to inspire creativity, but also to empower quilters with user-friendly tools and methods that help achieve accurate piecing and impeccable results.
Along the way I'll be sharing plenty of tips, tricks, and little efficiencies I've learned over the years—because quilting should be both rewarding and enjoyable.
